Desert Ironwood Burl Earrings, 14KT Gold-Filled Hooks
Desert Ironwood Burl is one of the most coveted of all woods here at SMStudios. Its origins are from the Southwest Desert. It is one of the hardest and densest woods in North and South America. It has extremely rich tonalities, ranging from deep burgundies to tigers eye golds, appearing as if gold and copper threads were woven right into its fibers. Aside from its decadent tones, its patterns are unlike any other burl across the world. It has a very distinct marbled like patterning, swirling with contrast with fine lines of blacks and chocolates, allowing its lighter grains to pop, lending a high-class opulence in wood unseen. SMStudios is proud to craft such a gorgeous and rare burl wood into wearable works of art.
These earrings are fitted with 14Kt. gold-filled hooks; gold-filled is 100 times thicker than gold plating! The gold will not wear like it's thinner cousin, gold-plating.
All photos are taken outdoors in natural sunlight. They may appear darker or shift color in fluorescent lighting inside. These photos do not serve these earrings justice! They are organic yet elegant, perfect for wearing either formally or casually.
The wood materials used are finished with a fine layer of natural organic carnauba wax, to protect it from moisture without using harsh polyurethanes. Depending on the type of wood used, this finish may appear as a high gloss, in wood working we call it a glass finish. Glass finishes will over time wear naturally and achieve a natural patina, eventually taking on a satin finish. Some woods with larger pores may appear with a more satin finish to start, as all woods finish differently. Taking care of your exotic wood jewelry is paramount to its life-span and will last a life-time if taken care of properly.
